So it’s been awhile since I posted anything and I want to attribute that all to the busy summer I’ve had. But unfortunately, I’ve also fallen off the wagon a bit. Half by choice and half by chance. On our boat trip last weekend, we spent a few days at the cottage which involved a lot of barbecues, beer and late night snacking.
We had a blast even though I wasn’t working out much but unfortunately I bit my tooth on a popcorn kernel and it cracked straight off. Bear in mind this is my front tooth, and we were in the middle of nowhere on a campsite without electricity.
So we had to boat back to shore, gather up our stuff and take a road trip to the nearest dental office. My tooth was bleeding, I was bout five beers in and my wife is pregnant (but luckily was able to drive me since she hadn’t been drinking). We were lucky enough to get a spot at the dentist in la mesa where he was able to give me a matching tooth implant and it was pain-free for the most part.
The cost wasn’t too bad but it definitely put a damper on our boat trip and we decided to head home straight after. Maybe it was my punishment for not having exercised or eaten healthy for a few weeks. Sitting in the dentist office chair and barely fitting was a reminder of how much work I still have to do on myself. The dentist also put my on a strict diet of soups, smoothies and juices until my gums are healed. Hopefully this will help me stick to a low calorie diet full of vitamins and minerals. Summer is almost over and the last thing I want is to be getting too comfortable with the idea that jeans and sweater weather is around the corner.
My goal is to quit drinking to avoid incidents like emergency trips to the dentist and also to eat healthy throughout the week. There are certain foods that will hurt my teeth and my waist line as well! Though we did have a great vacation, I’m not sure the excess calories from beer was really worth the buzz it gave me. My wife is proud of my newfound commitment to making a healthy change in my lifestyle.
So I decided I need to start writing about it here to keep myself committed to my cause. Today marks day 6 of eating well and working out a half hour a day!
